Biography

Mitiku Mekuria Malimo was born in Hidar 1963 EC in Mada Kuyli Kebele, Marak’a Woreda of Dawuro Zone (former Kullo Konta Awuraja), Southwest Ethiopia. He attended primary education at Dochi Elementary School; Junior high school education at Waka Junior High School, and secondary education at Waka Senior Secondary High School in Dawuro Zone. He studied English Language for Diploma Program at Bahir Dar Teachers’ College (1986-1987 EC); English Language & Pedagogical Science Composite [two majors] for BA degree at Bahir Dar University (1990-1992 EC); Educational Measurement & Evaluation for MA degree (1996-1997 EC), and Applied Developmental Psychology for PhD (2002-2008 EC) at Addis Ababa Univeristy. Besides, he obtained Higher Diploma (June 29, 2006 GC) from Debub University).

Mitiku taught English Language in Geresse Medium High School (1988-1989 EC), Gamo Zone; taught Psychology courses and served as Guidance Counselor at Bonga Institute of Teachers’ Education (1993-1995 EC); at Dilla University (Meskerem 1998 EC – to date/2014 EC), taught different Psychology courses in undergraduate and MA programs, served as Distance Ed. Unit Coordinator in Continuing Ed. Program (Tahisas 1999 to Tikmt 2002 EC); and lastly Psychology Department Head (Tahisas to Sene 2010 EC).Some of Mitiku’s contributions are the following:

  • He reviewed/evaluated several Research Papersof the Annual Research Conferences of the Years 2011-2012 EC of the Institute of Education & Behavioural Sciences, Dilla University (Reference: Dr Misganu Legese).
  • He developed Educational Psychology Specialty part in PhD in EducationEducational Psychology Specialty Curriculum in 2019 (01/07/2011 EC).

  • He (with my colleagues) produced Educational Psychology (EPsy 111) Distance Course Module for SKIP Students, Dilla University (2001 EC).
  • He (with my colleagues) produced Educational Measurement and Evaluation (EPsy 222) Distance Course Module for SKIP Students, Dilla College of Teachers’ Education & Health Sciences, Debub University (Nehasse 1998 EC).

Mitiku’s areas of research interest include marriage/family issues, identity topics, Dawuro heritage and psychology, Dawurotsuwa oral literature and Dawurotsuwa as a medium of instruction, Dawuro history and Dawuro socio-cultural issues. Lastly, he is serving as a member and Chairperson of Training and Education Committee of Dawuro Intellectuals and Partners Association (DIPA).
